Fireblocks outlines EU-focused architecture to address jurisdictional risks, aiding European banks in MiCA compliance.

Fireblocks has unveiled a comprehensive guide addressing jurisdictional concerns for European financial institutions, emphasizing its EU-only data centers and regulatory-focused architecture. With the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) becoming a cornerstone of digital asset governance across Europe, the infrastructure provider is tailoring its offerings to meet the region’s stringent requirements.

The timing of this announcement aligns with increasing institutional adoption of digital assets in Europe. Fireblocks’ recent research reported that 53% of European financial institutions had dedicated budgets for digital asset infrastructure in 2026. Major players, including the Qivalis bank consortium, have already turned to Fireblocks for MiCA-compliant solutions like a euro-backed stablecoin set to launch later this year.

Key Elements of Fireblocks’ EU-Focused Strategy

Data sovereignty remains a central theme. Fireblocks operates its SaaS platform exclusively within EU borders, deploying infrastructure across four European countries to ensure operational resilience. Redundancy is built into the system, ensuring no single failure disrupts the platform. While limited data may be processed in the U.S. for global support operations, Fireblocks asserts compliance with EU data protection laws, including Standard Contractual Clauses.

At the heart of Fireblocks’ technical architecture is its multi-party computation (MPC) key management. This cryptographic setup ensures that private key material never leaves the client’s environment, effectively preventing Fireblocks from accessing, freezing, or tampering with client assets. Clients can also reconstruct private keys independently, enabling seamless migrations to other platforms if needed. For those using hardware security modules (HSMs), the same level of control remains firmly in the client’s hands.

    Operational Continuity and Resilience

Fireblocks touts its operational resilience with ISO 22301-certified business continuity and disaster recovery plans. These plans include annual reviews and SOC 1 Type 2 audits, with no exceptions noted. The company’s follow-the-sun support model and distributed workforce add another layer of operational stability, ensuring that no single geographic disruption affects platform functionality.

Contractual protections further enhance client confidence. For regulated entities, Fireblocks incorporates a regulatory addendum to its Master Service Agreement (MSA), addressing MiCA and related obligations. Even after contract termination, client data is securely retained for seven years, with options for case-by-case data purges.

    Implications for European Institutions

Fireblocks’ emphasis on data sovereignty, operational control, and regulatory compliance positions it as a critical partner for European banks navigating MiCA’s requirements. The Qivalis stablecoin project and OpenPayd’s integration into the Fireblocks Network for Payments highlight the increasing trust in its infrastructure. For institutions concerned about potential U.S. jurisdictional risks, Fireblocks’ EU-only approach offers notable reassurance.

As European financial institutions accelerate their digital asset strategies, Fireblocks’ ability to blend cutting-edge cryptographic architecture with regulatory foresight could make it a go-to provider in the market. With MiCA compliance and operational independence at the forefront, institutions have a solid framework to integrate digital assets without compromising control or security.
