Animoca Brands’ Moca Chain Takes Aim at Digital Identity

    Key Takeaways

    • Moca Foundation and Moca Network launched the Moca Chain mainnet to manage decentralized digital identities.
    • The launch addresses growing privacy risks caused by $100B+ in annual data custody costs and AI agent web traffic.
    • Over 9 partners, including SK Planet and Automobili Lamborghini, plan to integrate Moca Network’s AIR in 2026.

    Decoupling Verification from Data Storage

Moca Foundation and Moca Network, an Animoca Brands project, have launched a blockchain network allowing users to carry verified digital credentials across applications without repeatedly sharing their underlying personal information. The network focuses on digital identity and enables organizations to issue verifiable credentials covering information such as identity verification and membership status.

According to Moca Network, users retain custody of those credentials and determine when and where they are shared. The launch comes as businesses increasingly grapple with fragmented digital identity systems that require customers to undergo similar verification procedures across multiple platforms. Moca Network argues that the problem could become more pronounced as artificial intelligence (AI) agents increasingly conduct transactions and interact with online services on behalf of users.

Under Moca Chain’s decentralized verification model, organizations can verify user information and issue tamper-resistant credentials linked to a unified digital identity. The approach reduces the amount of sensitive information companies need to store.

Moca Network is pairing the blockchain with AIR, which provides businesses with a single integration point for onboarding users and AI agents. Companies can use AIR to turn existing customer verification checks into credentials on Moca Chain or accept credentials issued by trusted third-parties.

    notion

The company argues that such verification infrastructure will become increasingly important as autonomous agents account for a greater share of online activity.

“Users should not be forced to surrender sensitive personal information redundantly every time they use a new service and platform,” Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, said in a statement.

    Reducing Redundant Data Requests

Siu said repeated verification requirements are not only cumbersome, but can create barriers that discourage users from moving between competing platforms.

“As more and more AI agents navigate the digital economy on behalf of more and more people, Moca Chain is ideally positioned to provide individuals with sovereign ownership of their credentials, and to give businesses a mechanism that can establish trust without unnecessary data custody,” he said.

Meanwhile, Moca Network revealed that AIR’s ecosystem includes integrations with consumer platforms, fintech companies, loyalty programs, and agentic commerce projects. Partners named by the company include South Korea’s SK Planet, ticketing platform Biletinial, gaming marketplace Oyunfor, Open Campus, soccer platform OneFootball, Automobili Lamborghini, Inveo Kripto, Plume, and blockchain analytics company Nansen.

Kenneth Shek, CEO of Moca Network, described Moca Chain as infrastructure intended to make identity information available and changes to identity credentials auditable.

“Scalable data sharing is necessary for AI agents to act on behalf of humans; however, the trust framework for delegation and authority is lacking,” Shek said.

He added that AIR is designed to allow AI agents to perform tasks while users retain control over their personal data and permissions.
